Skagway

Right now, I’m at a internet cafe, in Skagway, trying to check my mail.  I only have a few more minutes before I have to get off.  I have some really super pictures coming into Skagway, AK but don’t have time to post them..

Tomorrow we take off on the ferry for Juneau and I don’t have internet there either.  We’ll be in Juneau for 2 weeks.

Sign Post Forrest at Watson Lake, YK

I know what you’re thinking!  This is one to many sign posts!  It’s a fun place to visit.  It’s also like a graveyard.  You could stay for hours to read them all and each one is different.  There’s about 60,000 of them now.  When it first got started, it was more or less just license plates and pieces of wood.  But now, as you see, people have gotten more creative.

Went to buy some bananas today and saw that they were $1.17 a lb.  So, we will wait until we get to Whitehorse and see what the prices are at Walmart.  Leaving tomorrow and heading for Teslin.

Liard Springs

We are now in the Yukon Territories.  I called several campgrounds here and found that they have all closed down the end of the season last year.  Not much up in this area open anymore.  No such things as rest areas in the Yukon.

I’m also thankful that we cut cardboard to put up at our bedroom windows.  It’s so light here!  I got up at 12:15 a.m. and found it still light and up again at 4 a.m. and it was getting bright.  I thought it was 9 o’clock in the morning it was so light.  I’ve not seen the sky dark or black yet.   (Don’t forget to click on the pictures to see them larger.)   We are in Watson lake for 3 days.  Not much to see here and the campground is just a dusty gravel parking lot but at least I can get the wash done.  =}

Dawson Creek to Muncho Lake

We arrived in Dawson and almost missed the mile “0″ marker for the “Alcan” highway.  Construction of the Alcan hwy (ALCAN was a military acronym for the Alaska-Canada Highway) officially began on March 9, 1942.  It ended 8 months and 12 days later on Oct. 25, 1942.   This is where we are now, traveling along the Alcan highway.

 We are finding gas prices to be any where around $4.88 to $5.95 a gallon.  Food is very expensive up here.  In fact I was going to take Bob out for breakfast on Father’s Day at the Lodge, at Muncho Lake.   For 2 eggs, hashbrowns and bacon it would cost $13.00, and that didn’t include the toast, coffee and juice.   Soooo, needless to say, I made him a nice breakfast at the trailer.   I think I like British Columbia best so far.  The mountains  and scenery is magnificent!  (Don’t forget to click on the pictures to see them  larger)

Mile 0 at Dawson Creek

We arrived at Mile 0 here in Dawson Creek and we had a beautiful Carolina Blue sky to travel here today.   Only staying one night as it’s a zoo here at this campground, with all the caravans and others heading to Alaska.

Prince George

  As you can see, we are now in British Columbia and have landed in Prince George.  We have been here for 3 nights now and the owner of the campground directed us to Big John’s who put on a new electric jack for us.  So, we are up and running again.   The black flies and mosquitoes are really bad here.  I have been some mosquitoes lunch and dinner everyday so far.

Tomorrow, we leave and head for Dawson Creek.  Changing our plans just a little bit so as to travel up on somewhat better roads.  So far it has truly been an adventure!   We have come through, rain, hail, sleet and snow.  Had a broken propane regulator, replaced an electric jack and one of our casters (small wheel in the back) came off when Bob made an off turn.  We decided not to worry about getting this fixed as it requires a welding job.   Oh, then Bob fell and scraped his knee and I sprained  a muscle in my back while at Becky’s.  The pain was so bad, I thought I had cracked a rib.  Finally, I went to a medical clinic in Montana.   The doc gave me a strong anti-inflammatory medication which worked great!  As we where traveling here, we had to make a potty stop along one of the turnouts.  (The advantage of having the trailer with us when we need to make a pit stop.)  I was driving and pulled off as much as I could since there was another car in front of me loading up on gas from his jug.  We were kind of slanted.  Bob went in first to the trailer and when he came out, he forgot we were on a slant and fell out the front door and landed on his back.  So now he has a scraped knee, which is healing nicely and a scraped elbow.   Today, here in PG it is beautiful and 71 degrees.  I am finally warming up after 3 weeks of cool weather.   Really though, we are doing great and having a wonderful time!  This country is awesome!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO ARE PRAYING FOR US!  HIS hand has certainly been on us and we are thankful!

Oh no, not more mountains pictures!

When we got ready to leave Lake Louise that morning, we found that our electric jack stopped working.  Sooo, we proceed to crank it by hand.  It took both of us to take turns doing it.  It was really hard to turn, but we did it!  On our way, we saw some large mule deer with great racks on there heads and the cutest little baby bear just coming out of the woods.  Also, a huge moose who didn’t stick around to have his picture taken. I guess he was shy.   Couldn’t get any pictures anyhow as Bob was driving to fast.  =}

Our trip to Cameron Lake

It’s been raining off and on.  Packed a lunch and rode up to the red rocks, but by the time we got there, it was raining so hard that we decided to go home and eat our lunch and try again later.  So, after lunch the sun came out and we took a drive to Cameron Lake.  We hit the jackpot with all the animals we saw.   (Click on pictures to see them larger)

We are here in Cochrane, about 15 minutes from Calgary.  We leave here on June 5th heading towards Banff/Jasper area.

Waterton Park

I was going to catch ya’ll up on our travels to here, but the vistas were so gorgeous at Waterton, that I decided just to post the pictures from there.   You will find a double posting for today since we just arrived at Cochrane, AB.  This is the first wifi we have had for a few days.  We haven’t had a lot of beautiful weather, but the times that we did, we got out and hiked.

We came through some really bad rain storms and then the sun came out long enough for us to arrive at Cochrane around 3 pm.  Bob just finished up with all the connections and it started raining and hailing.  It was so bad, we couldn’t even hear each other talk.  This went on for 30 minutes and now it’s just raining.   Enjoy the beauty!  Click on the pics to see them larger.
