Haines

We said our goodbyes to Cynthia and Dan and left  Juneau and arrived in Haines on July 9th.  We will leave Haines tomorrow on the 12th and head for Kluane Lake area, just above Haines Junction.  We saw as much as we needed to here in Haines.  I have loads more pictures but this blog site is not user friendly when it comes to putting on lots of pictures.  (Don’t forget to click on the pictures to see them larger)     This totem that you see below, will be painted with tradition colors of black, blue and red.    It will take approx. 3000 hours to finish and the price goes for $2,300. - $3,000 per ft.  They use RED CEDAR for the pole.

Wow, $5 each???? That’s crazy. In Long Beach, they had whole ones and were selling for like $7 per lb., and you know how hefty those crabs are.

    Hi guys,

Hello from South Dakota. Our trip seems quite tame compared to yours. Of course, we haven’t suffered quite the bumps and bruises you guys have. That stuff isn’t contagious is it? Just checking for the next time we go camping together.

How did Beck make out with all of the flooding??? Not too bad I hope.

We’re in the Black Hills of SD. Went to Mt. Rushmore today and will go back for a full day sometime this week. Also, plan on seeing Sturgis, Lead, Deadwood, etc. while we’re here.

Thouroughly enjoyed Minnesota. Saw the big iron boats in Duluth, MN as well as the mines up around Grand Rapids, MN. Even went down 2500′ into an abandoned mine on a cable car. Learned a lot about the early 18th century fur trading as well as the early 20th century logging.

Enjoying your blog - when we have wifi. So far we haven’t had it very much. We have stayed at number of Corps of Engineers campgrounds and they don’t have it. They have elec and water but no sewer. But for $12 per night, I can stand it (Barbara can “go” in the woods for that price???)

    Love you guys,

    Dick and Barbara, too
