We said our goodbyes to Cynthia and Dan and left Juneau and arrived in Haines on July 9th. We will leave Haines tomorrow on the 12th and head for Kluane Lake area, just above Haines Junction. We saw as much as we needed to here in Haines. I have loads more pictures but this blog site is not user friendly when it comes to putting on lots of pictures. (Don’t forget to click on the pictures to see them larger) This totem that you see below, will be painted with tradition colors of black, blue and red. It will take approx. 3000 hours to finish and the price goes for $2,300. - $3,000 per ft. They use RED CEDAR for the pole.
We haven’t seen much in the way of wild life since leaving BC. Don’t forget to click on the pictures to see them larger.
Right now, I’m at a internet cafe, in Skagway, trying to check my mail. I only have a few more minutes before I have to get off. I have some really super pictures coming into Skagway, AK but don’t have time to post them..
Tomorrow we take off on the ferry for Juneau and I don’t have internet there either. We’ll be in Juneau for 2 weeks.
We arrived at Mile 0 here in Dawson Creek and we had a beautiful Carolina Blue sky to travel here today. Only staying one night as it’s a zoo here at this campground, with all the caravans and others heading to Alaska.
When we got ready to leave Lake Louise that morning, we found that our electric jack stopped working. Sooo, we proceed to crank it by hand. It took both of us to take turns doing it. It was really hard to turn, but we did it! On our way, we saw some large mule deer with great racks on there heads and the cutest little baby bear just coming out of the woods. Also, a huge moose who didn’t stick around to have his picture taken. I guess he was shy. Couldn’t get any pictures anyhow as Bob was driving to fast. =}
