After leaving Bobby and family in TN we headed towards home. Stopped to see Faith, Ernie and Brandi here in Conover, NC on Friday, Aug. 29. We thought we would spend a day or two and leave first thing Sunday morning, the 31th so as to beat the traffic for Labor Day. Only 2 hours from home.

At 5:am Bob woke up with pains in his stomach and by 6:am he was sick. Thinking it might be a touch of a bug, we waited until 8: am to see if it got better. It didn’t, so we rushed (Ernie driving) him to the hospital were it was somewhat determined by a CT scan, that he had a kink in his intestine. Because Bob is on a blood thinner, they couldn’t operate right away. Monday morning they went in and took 3 1/2 feet of small intestine out as it was twisted up, due to scare tissue, and cutting off his blood supply. So, to say all that, he is up here in the Catawba Valley Medical Center, in Hickory. At this point we are not sure when we will be home. God’s timing was perfect again as I have the trailer to stay in and we are with family. Faith and Ernie have been a big help and we can’t thank them enough for taking care of us so well, even though we spent Faith’s inheritance on this trip. (Sorry Faith, just couldn’t pass that up! =)

We arrived back in Iowa and having fun visiting with granddaughters. We’ll stop and see Bobby and family before heading back to NC. And so our trip comes to an end! ={

Well, we are now in Prince George making our way down to MT. We should get down there in the next 3 days. It has been a wonderful trip and one we won’t forget to soon. The sun has come out and it’s hot finally.

Sorry Cynthia, it looks like I didn’t get a picture of the hotel there in Hyder. Heading out tomorrow to Jasper. Don’t forget to click on the pictures to see them larger.

Tomorrow we start down the Cassier hwy and from the beginning of Rt 37 until we hit Iskut, they say the road is pretty bad. That’s one of the reasons why we didn’t come up this way like we planned. It snowed and made the road really slippery. Just met some folks who came up on it last week and they said it was bad but the had to admit, that it wasn’t as bad as this road from Tok to Haines Junction. These are just some of the pictures I could take to show you the conditions of the road, the others were so blurry. (Click on them twice to appreciate what they look like)

Starting for Home!

With all the rain and cold we have had on this trip, we decided to skip a lot of things and start for home. We are now in Watson Lake again and will start down the Cassier hwy tomorrow, Aug. 3rd. Visiting Iskut, Stewart, Smithers and Prince George. From there we aren’t sure which way we wil make our way down to the lower 48. We were planning on coming down 97 but with all the fires up in the Washington area around route 97 we aren’t sure. Stay tuned.

Exit Glacier

This was one of the few glaciers that we could get up this close to. It was a rough walk on the rocks especially since it was raining and they were wet. Sure glad we had our walking sticks.

Sealife Center in Seward, AK

This blog is definitely for the birds! It’s been raining all day again so this was a good time to visit the Sealife Center. This was built using the monies from the Exxon settlement. Beautiful place. Don’t forget to click on them once or twice to see them larger.

It wasn’t a great day but we still managed to see lots of moose, 5 brown bears, 1 red fox with her pups and caribou.

Before I go any further on this blog, let me say that, this blog site is for the purpose of keeping my family and friends up to date on what we are doing and where we are in our travels. I enjoy hearing from anyone BUT this site is NOT for the use of VENTING your disapproval on things we see or do. Please use your own web site to do so. THANKS! After traveling for 2 months and seeing nothing but mountains and more mountains it’s hard to believe that each are so different and more beautiful than the last ones. Tomorrow we take a 11 hour shuttle out to Wonder Lake. Again it’s suppose to rain.
